Ikechukwu Asika
The Winner of the ANA Prize for Drama, 2022, Ikechukwu Asika is a lecturer in the Department of English, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Asika holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDGE) as well as Masters and PhD degrees in English and Literary Studies from Nnamdi Azikwe University, Akwa. Ikechukwu Asika is a scholar, critic, playwright, poet, and novelist. He is dedicated to the business of knowledge production and creative writing and has distinguished himself as a prolific and burgeoning Nigerian creative writer with award-winning works in different genres. Asika has published over twelve novels, ten plays, and five collections of both poetry and short stories. Some of his short stories have appeared in ANA Review, Heart Links, African Writer.com, and Voices from the Viel: Anthology of Short Stories from Africa and the Diaspora among others. His novel, Tamara, won the First Prize in the Anambra Youth Achievers Award for Prose in 2013 and was the Second Runner-Up for the ANA Prose Prize for Fiction in 2013. His play, Erimma, made the shortlist for ANA Esiaba Irobi Prize for Playwriting in 2014. This play, Omalinze, an adaptation of Sophocles’ Antigone, is the current Winner of the ANA Prize for Drama, 2022 and has garnered remarkable critical commentaries for its many innovations in dramaturgy even before its publication.
